Tomorrow’s Leaders concluded its 2025–2026 season on Sunday, May 17, with a special athletic training and wrestling clinic that brought together over 55 athletes for the program’s final workshop of the year. The event marked the close of our 10-workshop season, ending the year with a full day of education, skill development, and high-level training.

The classroom session featured athletic trainers from Pepperdine University; Carlos Gonzalez, Joleen Galeazzi-Pimentel, and Adrianna Martinez. The group introduced athletes to the field of athletic training and explained the educational pathways required to pursue careers in sports medicine and athlete care. Athletes learned about the responsibilities athletic trainers carry during practices, competitions, and recovery sessions while also gaining insight into the level of preparation and education needed to succeed in the profession.

The presenters demonstrated proper wrist and ankle taping techniques and explained why each method matters in injury prevention and support. Athletes then practiced the techniques themselves during a hands-on workshop. Trainers moved throughout the room checking each athlete’s work, correcting mistakes, answering questions, and providing detailed feedback. The interactive format created an engaging learning environment that allowed athletes to gain direct experience rather than simply watching demonstrations. The session also taught athletes how proper taping can provide temporary support and stability during training and competition when minor injuries or discomfort occur.

The wrestling portion of the clinic featured internationally recognized coach Valentin Kalika. Kalika is a World and Olympic wrestling coach who has worked with both Team USA and Israel since 2013. He currently coaches with Titan Mercury Wrestling Club, where he helped lead Team USA to its first World Cup victory in 2016. His coaching career includes working with some of the most accomplished wrestlers in the sport, including Olympic gold medalists Helen Maroulis and Amit Elor, and Bellator fighter Aaron Pico. Kalika was recognized as the 2016 Coach of the Year and was inducted into the California Hall of Fame in 2020.

During the wrestling session, Kalika focused on tie-ups, positioning, and a two-on-one tie-up sequence. Athletes drilled the techniques repeatedly while learning how positioning, control, and pressure create scoring opportunities during competition. Kalika emphasized discipline in movement and attention to detail throughout the session, pushing athletes to sharpen both their technique and awareness.
The final workshop reflected the overall mission of Tomorrow’s Leaders throughout the season: combining wrestling, education, leadership, and mentorship to help athletes grow both on and off the mat. Across 10 workshops during the 2025–2026 season, athletes had the opportunity to learn from coaches, educators, professionals, and mentors from a wide range of backgrounds, closing out another impactful year for the program.
