Sunday April 16, Beat the Streets Los Angeles’ Angel City Grand Prix returned with record breaking numbers!
Over 240 female athletes from California and Arizona participated in our all-girls wrestling tournament; a leap up from the record 200 participants set in 2019.
As a leader in sports-based youth development, Beat the Streets LA launched the Angel City Grand Prix in 2014 to empower female wrestlers through unique learning and competition opportunities. Our non-profit will continue to encourage the growth of girls wrestling in a sport traditionally dominated by boys participation.

California leads the country in girls high school wrestling participation, but the data continues to tell a story of explosive growth across the country. Ten years ago, there were 8,235 girls participating in girls wrestling—mostly on boys teams—and only three states had separate state championships for girls (California, Hawaii and Texas). Now there are 33 states offering a girls wrestling championship and participation has jumped to 31,654. (source)
We look forward to providing more opportunities to our youth throughout the remainder of the season, including our Tomorrow’s Leaders Workshops, the Beat the Streets National Camp & Duals and the Cal Poly Wrestling Camp.
Thank you to all our partners, especially Mt. Sac College, Coach David Rivera and all the volunteers who helped make this event possible.
