In January 2026, Beat the Streets Los Angeles hosted our Summer Enrichment Fundraiser, which showcased firsthand how BTSLA’s programs support young wrestlers across the greater Los Angeles area. The following offers a glimpse at what we were able to accomplish this summer with your generous support. We served over 100 student-athletes through camps, university visits, scholarships, and our National Team trip.
BTSLA flew 35 boys and girls to Cleveland, Ohio, to participate in the BTS National Camp & Duals
On June 23, BTSLA brought 35 wrestlers from our community programs and Los Angeles high schools to Cleveland, Ohio, to join 13 BTS city chapters for the 5th Annual Beat the Streets National Camp & Duals. For many of these young people, this was their first time flying and/or leaving California, and for 17 athletes, it was their first time being a part of the National Team. All 35 students received backpacks, wrestling shoes, apparel, and singlets from ASICS, a longtime partner of Beat the Streets National.
This trip involved visits to three universities: Kent State University, Case Western Reserve University, and the University of Pittsburgh. During these visits, incoming seniors had the opportunity to explore the universities they were interested in.
During the competition, the Los Angeles Boys Team wrestled from morning through late afternoon against the toughest chapters across the country, earning a third-place finish. The girls' team brought home a first-place victory, marking the second win in the five-year history after an incredible performance.
Because of your amazing donations, BTSLA was able to offer this life-changing enrichment opportunity to athletes and cover the cost of flights, accommodations, meals, and other excursions.
Beat the Streets LA distributed $17,000 in Summer Camp scholarships
In late June, we provided scholarships for 11 girls and 8 boys to attend high-level summer wrestling camps. The girls attended the West Coast Wrestling Camp Girls Advanced Training Camp in Carlsbad, while the boys attended the Mustang Wrestling Camp led by Cal Poly’s wrestling coaches.
The girls’ five-day camp at the Army and Navy Academy featured daily live wrestling sessions, morning beach runs, motivational speakers, and more. With a packed schedule of activities, the 11 girls had the opportunity to learn from accomplished athletes and coaches, including Camp Director Mark Muñoz, an NCAA national champion and two-time California state champion.
The boys’ five-day camp focused on improving technical skills, mat awareness, and mental strength. They trained under Division I coaches in a supportive and structured environment designed to help them grow
their wrestling expertise.
Eight BTSLA youth take on Fargo

In continuation of our summer competition scholarships, we helped fund eight wrestlers from three programs who qualified to compete in the 2026 United States Marine Corps Junior and 16U Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota. BTSLA was proud to offer scholarships totaling over $8,000 to cover the cost of travel to this amazing competition to help remove some of the financial barriers that may have otherwise prevented some of our youth from having the opportunity to compete against some of the best athletes in the nation.
This national wrestling tournament is the largest and most prestigious high school wrestling event in the country. A highlight of the trip was Isabella L. from our Tomorrow’s Leaders program, who placed fourth in Junior Girls Freestyle.
Additionally, here are the wrestling tournament stats for the rest of our wrestlers:
Paige P. — 100 lbs, 16U | 3-2
Alexia H. — 120 lbs, 16U | 3-2
Shaire A. — 140 lbs, Juniors | 2-2
Landon Q. — 113 lbs, Junior Boys Greco | 4-2V
aleria M. — 105 lbs, Junior Girls | 3-2
Jayden D. — 157 lbs, Junior Greco-Roman | 4-2
Zoe B. — 190 lbs, 16U | 0-2
BTSLA hosts a Summer Academy that highlights fun wellness habits

In July, we hosted a Summer Wrestling Academy at Belmont High School in Downtown LA. This three-day camp brought together more than 40 elementary, middle, and high school athletes for a blend of wrestling, wellness, and enrichment.
Throughout the academy, youth and advanced athletes participated in lessons covering three key areas: nutrition, hygiene, and mindset. Each wrestler received a Summer Wrestling Academy Workbook with educational resources, reflection questions, and space to record notes and personal goals.
Day one focused on food choices to support each student’s health and performance; day two covered personal hygiene; and day three explored mindset and emotional well-being.
The Summer Academy allowed these young athletes to ask critical questions, practice new skills, and reflect on everyday habits that affect their performance. Each student left the academy with practical tools to fuel their bodies, protect their health, manage their emotions, and work toward meaningful goals.
Coach and Mentor Training
Our final summer event focused on preparing more than 66 head coaches, volunteer coaches, and apprentice coaches from our 13 programs for the 2026–2027 season. During the two-day Coach and Mentor Training, participants developed their skills in leadership, mentorship, athlete wellness, wrestling instruction, program logistics, and safety.

We presented our first Leader of the Year Award to John Islas in recognition of his hard work, dedication, and creativity throughout the previous season. A BTSLA alumnus, Coach Islas grew up in the program and competed on our first BTS National Camp and Duals team in 2022. He later returned to give back as a coach.

More than 8 high school athletes attended this training in preparation to join our Apprentice Coach program this season. This paid apprenticeship offers current BTSLA student-athletes opportunities to plan and lead practices, mentor, and assume essential responsibilities as assistant coaches within their home programs. These vital life skills are designed to prepare these young athletes for college and for life.
This year marks a new cohort in our Apprenticeship program, as most of our previous class graduates and moves on to the next stage of their lives.

As the summer comes to an end, we are incredibly grateful to our supporters, students, community partners, and donors. We served over 100 student-athletes through a variety of events, camps, and university visits, and distributed over $58,900 in scholarships this summer.
We are looking forward to another incredible year filled with unforgettable memories, new wrestlers, and new champions.
